From China to Canada, GlobeCast Australia was proud to assist Australia's news channel SKY NEWS to deliver the nation's Election Day 2010 coverage live, worldwide via a 7-satellite network created for the day by SKY NEWS. As Australians voted in a hung parliament, takers included both CPAC and CBC in Canada; both Fiji TV and Mai TV Fiji; CCTV China and Channel News Asia; and Pacific nations including Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Tonga. In addition, BskyB UK dedicated an Active Channel to the rolling coverage. Whilst other broadcasters including France 24 and APTN took the coverage for news excerpts.
These were just some of the many takers, as SKY NEWS delivered the largest international broadcast distribution ever for an Australian election, using GlobeCast Australia’s own global resources and its access to leading satellite platforms. SKY NEWS' Election Day coverage all day on August 21 was the most comprehensive in scope of any Australian broadcaster – it was distributed internationally free-to-air and unencrypted to multiple digital satellite, cable, and terrestrial television systems, as well as live online and on mobile platforms. The special satellite television network that SKY NEWS commissioned for the day alone spanned 98% of the globe.
