Julia Gillard to Lead Australia

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard

GlobeCast Australia was live from Canberra to the world as more than two weeks of talks led to Prime Minister Julia Gillard being confirmed in the top job. Broadcasts were live via GlobeCast Australia satellite capacity for both Network Ten and SKY News Australia. Feeds were also uplinked over Asia for Reuters; and material from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation travelled via fibre to APTN London; and material from the Nine Network via fibre to CNN in the US. A DSNG was mobilised to the lawns of Parliament House for Ten News to broadcast different news bulletins simultaneously to its three major East Coast markets: Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. The historic conclusion to a hung parliament election result coincided with other major live coverage across Australasia. GlobeCast Australia was also providing DSNG and satellite capacity from the flood-ravaged state of Victoria; and satellite capacity for ongoing coverage of the aftermath of the Christchurch earthquake. GlobeCast Australia’s global distribution network and the largest DSNG fleet in the country are both backed by a state of the art 24/7 Broadcast Centre.

GlobeCast Australia specialises in global delivery. On August 21, it was proud to deliver Australia's news channel SKY NEWS coverage of Election Day 2010, live, worldwide via a 7-satellite network created for the day. GlobeCast Australia switched the Election Day 2010 coverage through satellites deployed by Intelsat, Eutelsat, and AsiaSat. Global takers included CPAC and CBC in Canada; both Fiji TV and Mai TV Fiji; CCTV China and Channel News Asia; and Pacific nations including Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Tonga. In addition, BskyB UK dedicated an Active Channel to the rolling coverage. Whilst other broadcasters including France 24 and APTN took the coverage for news excerpts.
