In many homes, the balcony is under-utilised. You can have a furniture arrangement in this space to make more use of it and this can be a convenient space for relaxation as well.

You need to have a clear vision

When you are looking for the right furniture arrangement for the balcony. Think about the activities you will engage in when it comes to this space. If you have a spacious balcony, you may entertain guests here as well. Maybe this is the right place for you to enjoy your morning coffee or the balcony will be overlooking a gorgeous view so that you can relax or read a book in peace. By having a good idea of how you will be using the space, you will be able to choose the right furniture to go with it. Many balconies will not have a lot of space so you have to look for space saving options. This can be compact furniture pieces, folding chairs, folding or stackable tables etc. It is a good idea to use multi-functional items. For example, if you are having a bench, this can double as a place for storage as well. Ottomans are another example for this.

You have to think about the layout of the balcony along with any architectural features in it.

Think about how it opens into the indoors, how people will access the outdoor balcony & patio sets and in which direction you have a good view of the outdoors. You can create a cosy space with a small table to enjoy a morning cup of coffee with your significant other or a small seating area to lounge in.  Look for ways to prioritise comfort through your furniture choices. You can choose outdoor friendly fabric for throws and cushions. These will fare well in the outdoors even with exposure to moisture and sunlight. The cushions are a great way to infuse colour into the space. You can keep the furniture in a neutral colour palette and add colour by choosing colourful throw pillows, cushions and accessories. This way, it is easier to adapt the outdoor lounge colour theme to that of your home whenever you go through a change.

You need to maximise floor space as this is limited in so many balconies.

To do this but still enjoy some greenery or decorative elements, you can have a vertical plant wall. This can be a vertical garden, or wall mounted shelves where you keep potted plants and other decorative elements. You can also have hanging planters. This will save a lot of space. Therefore, you should always select decorative items that can be mounted on the walls or hung from above so that the vertical space of your balcony can be utilised. You need to ensure that your balcony furniture is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. You should never be overcrowding the balcony space. There has to be some empty space as well so that you can comfortably move around. You can add personalisation to the space with different accessories like throw pillows, outdoor rugs and lighting.
